Day One of the inaugural Mozzart Bet Mayo Bullfighting contest lived to expectations, with five thrilling contests lighting up the fully-packed Shieywe Grounds.
Thousands of bullfighting enthusiasts from Kakamega town and the neighbouring towns, villages and shopping centres turned up in droves to drum support bulls from their local areas.
The fighter bulls were escorted by hundreds of chanting fans after disembarking from the lorries which ferried them to just a few metres to the arena.
Isukuti was served in plenty, with the police and other hired security men working hand in hand to maintain law and order.
Parking marshals working overtime to ensure the hundreds of packed motorbikes do not block the adjacent road or disrupt other users.
Stephen Musee, the Director of Industrialization and Tourism at Kakamega County opened the event that is scheduled to run up to Saturday.
As soon as Musee wrapped up his brief speech, Tiger, a bull from Iguhu proved too strong for the much-hyped Aguero from Eregi.
Bulls from Kabras registered mixed results as Martial lost to Russia from Idaho while Messi won against 540 from Butsotso.
Simba, enjoying massive support from Shieywe fans, was courageous enough to beat Ngong 005 from Kimingini.
Muranda's Imbongo beat Shihuvi from Shieywe in what was the last contest of the day.
Three fights are set for Thursday on the same venue with more action set for Friday.
Ashu will face Sure with Power taking on Jasho. BBI Zakayo will be up against Defender.
Organisers intend to have the final day matches staged at the Mumias Sports Complex but bull owners objected the idea, citing the distance and advice from fans.
